Melodye & "Daliance" in Southern Pines, North Carolina

Melodye & her first Grand Prix Horse, and professor, "Asterix" in 1995 in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Melodye & 4 year old "Optimum" at Iron Spring Farm. Melodye is an experienced horse manager, trainer, & instructor with more than 25 years of experience. She has worked with elite sport horses at prestigious farms on the East coast & the Midwest. "I understand the emotional & financial investment you have made in your horse." Furthermore, " I consider it a privilege to be entrusted with you or your child's riding education."

Letter of Reference, August, 2007 Melodye has been both of my daughter's dressage instructor for two years & has earned my respect for her professionalism, patience, experience, and innovation. Both of my daughters have advanced technically & have furthered their understanding of horses through her teaching. Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to watch Melodye teach many students, ranging from beginners to third level riders. She is conscientious about tailoring lessons to suit the temperment and experience of the horse & rider, and logically & kindly helps the rider work toward her personal goal. Her students in this area ranged from 5 year olds to middle-aged adults, and in all cases the rider was able to advance under Melodye's instruction. She also willingly accompanied students to schooling shows and recognized shows frequently allowing young riders to use her horses to compete. This Spring she began preparing a team for the USDF Region One Junior Young Rider Championship show at Morven Park. She cheerfully escorted them to the show in Virginia and the team gained valuable experienced as they won the "Stable Management Award" competing against 40 other teams. Melodye is always on the lookout for ways to improve her student's comprehension of the delicate connection between horse & rider. She arranges clinics, recommends books to read, and takes opportunities throughout the day to teach her students more about horsemanship. Another trait I admire in Melodye is her flexibility in dealing with people & horses. She willingly takes on students who trailer in their horses and works extensively week after week to train both the horse & the rider. She will suggest techniques for riders to use with their horses to correct behavioral problems, and is very intuitive vis-a-vis equine behavior. Melodye calmly & effectively works with horses & students of all ages & temperments. I highly recommend Melodye as an experienced instructor & trainer & I'm willing to confirm this if you wish to contact me at MelHawes1@verizon.net. Dawn Hawes.

Melodye & "Nelson" in Lexington, Virgina

Melodye is an effective, confidence building dressage instructor & trainer. She began her intensive dressage training when she retired from a career as a ballet dancer. She brings the discipline, knowledge of physiology, kinesiology, & the aesthetic eye of a classically trained artist to the dressage arena to help her students improve through a well balanced seat.

While apprenticing with numerous FEI trainers Melodye had the opportunity to learn proper feelings & collection from many experienced Grand Prix & FEI horses.  This experience has enabled  Melodye to  train & show  horses of all experience levels such as Iron Spring Farm's 3 year old "Par Favour" by Rampal to a Championship at Dressage at Devon in dressage suitability in 2000. She has trained numerous horses who have successfully competed with their amateur owners with a special emphasis on young riders. In 1998 Melodye's working student won the Bengt Lundquist Championship at first level in a large, competitive class.

As a sporthorse breeder herself, Melodye has developed award winning Oldenburgs who are winning in recognized dressage classes. In 2002 Meloye's 4 year Oldenburg, won the Materiale Class at Dressage at Devon. She has been an active participant in warmblood breeding organizations & has been a guest speaker with numerous breed registries concerning the preparation of young horses for performance tests.

DRESSAGE TRAINING Dressage is a French word that refers to the training of horses. The object of Dressage is the harmonious development of the body, mind, and the ability of the horse, making him calm, supple, well balanced and in harmony with the rider. Dressage can be a means to an end, a way of developing any horse to make a comfortable, attentive, athletic mount ready to compete in almost any discipline....or dressage can be a passion. In any case, the daily routine of working with your horse, along with developing a deeper relationship and watching him increase in strength and physical & mental suppleness, confidence, and the horse's evolving beauty each day is an activity that brings meaning to your life & gives you joy!
